SECURITY IN AIX, RETRACTABLE BOLLARDS IN THE COURS MIRABEAU
Tuesday, the 29th of August 2017, LA PROVENCE
« Since the10th of October, the access in the Cours Mirabeau is controlled by automatic bollards, connected to the police station. These bollards replace the concrete barriers, laid in 2016. Even if the exact timing was uncertain, the emblematic street of the city center was for many years on the schedule of Aix’s progressive « pedestrianization ». As a consequence of the state of emergency in France, the schedule got increasingly tighter. The first traffic restrictions on the Cours Mirabeau for security reasons are not recent, starting from spring 2016, even before the attack of the 14th of July in Nice. In mid-November 2016, along with the installation of the Christmas market, local authorities reinforced this measure and closed the street to traffic, except for delivery vehicles, eletric Diablines as well as residents and hotels’ clients. »
